The SmartyCam GP HD automatically overlays elements in the video with all the data you need—speed, RPM, lap times, gear position, and much more.
Simply choose the data you want to see and the graphical layout you prefer from the library, and send it back to the camera—that’s it!
You are on the starting grid, you're ready to roll this beast on-track, your adrenaline is at an all time high...the last thing you want to worry about is switching on the in-car camera. You have more important things to worry about!

It switches on/off automatically and starts/stops recording the same way...automatically.
The system can be set via the keypad, so the camera will start recording when a speed or RPM threshold is met. And then, you simply decide how long after the threshold is no longer met that the camera records data/video. That’s it!!!
The engine rumble and idle causes vibrations, which is not a good thing for video. Naturally, this ‘wave effect’ will give you a seasick feeling while reviewing your video.
The SmartyCam GP HD has been designed for this environment and for the vibrations. The ‘wave’ is a thing of the past.
Generic action-cameras are designed to record video in a variety of situations, like skiing or surfing…NOT motorsports.
Due to the perspective and lens angle, those cameras straighten out the corners ahead when on track—no good. So, when you want to check your on-track performance, those videos are useless, because the images are distorted. Being a camera designed for motorsports and the environment, the SmartyCam GP HD features lenses specifically built to avoid distortion.
The narrow HFOV lens (67 degree FOV) is preferred in closed-roof cars, as it ‘sees’ the track from pillar to pillar, reducing the unpleasant black frame around a typical, generic camera’s on-board video.
The wide HFOV (84 degree FOV) lens is specifically designed for open-roof and formula car cockpits (or, someone that likes it a little wider), where it is possible to have a more of an ample view of the track with no risk of weird black frames.
The SmartyCam GP HD recorder pack uses a 240 x 320 pixel TFT color display, which makes installation and aiming so much easier.
HD camera competition is focused on the highest number of pixels. The result is that their video files are far too large, taking too much memory on your memory card.
The SmartyCam GP HD videos have the same quality as other HD cameras, but the files are smaller because the H.264 compression used and optimized for a perfect balance between video quality and file size.
You can choose from three video quality settings: low, medium, or high. Files are stored onto an SD card. As an example, with a 128GB SD card, you can store up to 30 hours of video on a single card.
Frail or weak devices do not work in the racing world—that’s the truth!
An on-board camera designed for motorsports must guarantee great tolerances against the most extreme operating conditions. It is going to be hot and cold; wet and dry; Gs are going to be high and low; the car may get smashed to pieces, but a motorsports camera MUST be able to handle this world. The SmartyCam GP HD can.
Hence, that is why the SmartyCam GP HD is made with aluminum housing.
The more robust, the better. At least, that's what we thought when building it.
